The ability to ask the Grok chatbot questions in X comments is now restricted to paid subscribers.
Users can tag the Grok chatbot under posts to ask questions, but the feature is now available only to those with X Premium or Premium+ subscriptions, which cost $8 and $40 per month respectively.
The function was first introduced in March 2025. Many users began tagging Grok in comment threads to verify news stories or statements from bloggers, sometimes treating the chatbot as a primary source of information.
Fact-checking specialists raised concerns that the chatbot could hallucinate or generate inaccurate answers, potentially spreading misinformation. There have already been cases where Grok contradicted verified facts or produced incorrect claims.
Some users also began trolling others by repeatedly commenting “Grok, is this true?” under posts while tagging the chatbot, turning the feature into a source of spam and mockery, Business Insider reported.
In July 2025, the bot generated several controversial and offensive responses. A Turkish court temporarily blocked Grok after it published remarks considered insulting toward President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. According to xAI, the issue was caused by a code update that led the chatbot to rely on outdated instructions and ignore neutrality guidelines.
