YouTube is increasing the minimum age requirement for kids who want to host live streams, according to an update on the platform’s support page.
Starting July 22, creators must be at least 16 years old to livestream independently. Additionally, children aged 13 to 15 will no longer be allowed to stream without adult supervision. If this rule is violated, YouTube will disable features like live chat — and may eventually revoke streaming privileges altogether.
For creators between the ages of 13 and 15, YouTube suggests appointing an adult as the channel’s editor, manager, or owner. The adult must be equally present during the broadcast to ensure that it qualifies as a co-stream.
Children under 13 will be entirely restricted from live streaming — YouTube will limit access on their accounts.
