YouTube has rolled out a new feature that lets users set a daily viewing limit for Shorts, giving them more control over how much time they spend scrolling through short videos.

Users can set their own limit, such as 30 minutes or an hour, and once that threshold is reached, YouTube will pause access to the Shorts feed until the next day. Adults can choose to override the restriction, but children will not be able to disable it when parental controls are active.

“Shorts are a core part of the YouTube experience. Setting a scrolling time limit on the Shorts feed allows for this exploration while helping users be more deliberate about their viewing habits and manage their time effectively,” the company said in a statement.

The feature can be found under the digital wellbeing section of account settings and is rolling out gradually across mobile devices. YouTube says the new tool is part of its broader effort to promote healthier viewing habits and reduce endless scrolling.
