iPhone Duo is heavier than rival foldables and skips the Action Button

A closer look at the iPhone Duo’s specifications has revealed several details Apple did not highlight during the launch, including its weight, missing Action Button and limits around water resistance.

iPhone Duo weight and thickness

The iPhone Duo weighs 254 grams and measures 11.3 mm thick when folded, making it heavier and thicker than current Android foldables, according to 9to5Google.

For comparison:

• Pixel 11 Pro Fold — 239 g, 10.1 mm
• Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra — 215 g, 8.9 mm
• Galaxy Z Fold 8 — 201 g, 9.7 mm

The difference versus Samsung reaches as much as 53 grams. 9to5Google suggests some of the added weight may come from Apple Pencil support. Samsung dropped stylus support with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, helping make the device significantly lighter.

No Action Button

Apple’s technical diagrams show that the iPhone Duo does not have an Action Button, MacRumors notes. The volume controls sit along the top edge, while Camera Control and the side button are on the right, with USB-C at the bottom.

Apple introduced the Action Button with the iPhone 15 Pro as a replacement for the traditional mute switch, and it has appeared on every new iPhone since. It can be assigned to features including the flashlight, Voice Memos, Focus modes, Visual Intelligence or a custom shortcut.

That makes the iPhone Duo the first iPhone without any physical mute control. Silent mode has to be enabled through Control Center instead. The side button also houses Touch ID, since the foldable model does not support Face ID.

IP68 water resistance

The iPhone Duo carries an IP68 rating, with testing for submersion in up to 6 meters of water for as long as 30 minutes under IEC 60529. Apple also states in the fine print that water and dust resistance are not permanent and may decline with normal wear.

That disclaimer is less common on conventional smartphones, but foldables rely on moving parts that can affect sealing over time. Google uses similar language for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, while Honor does the same for the Magic V6. Samsung’s current foldables remain below IP68, with an IP48 rating.
