Windows 11 is getting a new performance feature that works in a style similar to macOS, The Verge reports.
The feature, called Low Latency Profile, briefly increases CPU clock speed to make menus, pop-up windows, and applications open faster.
Testers who have tried the hidden feature report a noticeable jump in responsiveness. File Explorer, the Start menu, Outlook, the Microsoft Store, and Paint all launched faster with the profile enabled.
According to The Verge, Microsoft's first-party apps open up to 40% faster with the feature active. Response times for the Start menu and context menus improved by as much as 70%.
Some users accused Microsoft of artificially boosting performance numbers. Microsoft vice president Scott Hanselman rejected that claim, saying smartphones have used similar methods for years. In his view, briefly increasing CPU power during moments of user interaction is not cheating.
