WhatsApp is working on a major update that could soon let users create their own AI-powered chatbot, fully customized and built directly in the app — no coding required.

Spotted by 9to5Mac, the feature is currently being tested among a limited group of beta users on iOS and Android, according to WABetaInfo (via Tecnoblog). The update introduces a new section called AI Studio, designed to walk users through the process of building their own assistant or fun character. The chatbot can be tailored with a specific personality, tone, and avatar, offering a more expressive and individualized experience than traditional AI tools.

Until now, custom AI assistants on Meta platforms required using the web-based Meta AI Studio, or launching via Instagram or Messenger. With this update, WhatsApp users will be able to do everything within the app.

AI Studio is built for users with "no technical background", and all bots will be private by default. WhatsApp will also allow sharing via unique links — a feature reminiscent of recent tools from OpenAI and Google.

The feature is still under development and hasn't yet rolled out for wide testing, but its appearance in the latest beta builds suggests the launch isn’t far off. With this move, WhatsApp continues to expand its AI footprint — having recently debuted iPad support and begun rolling out usernames.
