WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature called “Strict Account Settings,” designed to significantly strengthen account security.
According to TechCrunch, the option will roll out in the coming weeks and is expected to be particularly useful for journalists and public figures.
When enabled, the messenger automatically blocks media files and attachments from unknown senders, disables calls from unfamiliar numbers, turns off link previews, and activates spam protection for mass messages.
The mode also automatically enables two-factor authentication and tightens privacy settings, making last seen status, profile photo, user info, and status visibility as restricted as possible.

The feature can be activated via Settings > Privacy > Advanced. However, Meta noted that the setting can only be changed on a smartphone, with the option unavailable in the web version of WhatsApp.
The announcement comes just days after a lawsuit was filed against Meta. The company has been accused of making misleading claims about the security of the messenger and of storing, analyzing, and having access to nearly all user communications. WhatsApp head Will Cathcart denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit unfounded and aimed primarily at generating headlines.
