Figma has announced a series of new features aimed at bridging the gap between design and development.

The newly introduced Dev Mode provides a seamless transition from design to development, allowing designers and developers to work within the same file using different modes. This eliminates the need for version updates and excessive communication, enabling developers to access the information they need more quickly.

With the addition of Variables, Figma streamlines the creation and management of multiple brands, devices, and themes. Designers can now test, iterate, and validate designs more efficiently, saving valuable time in the workflow process.

Figma's Advanced Prototyping feature offers a more dynamic and iterative design experience. With fewer frames and connections, designers can easily explore and refine design interactions without the need for separate tools or windows.

The quality of life updates bring further improvements to the Figma experience. Auto layout enhancements empower designers to create fully responsive designs with minimal resizing. An improved font picker enables faster font selection and filtering, while the redesigned file browser provides a more intuitive and efficient way to search for files, access shared projects, and navigate recent activity.

During the open beta phase, Dev Mode will be available for free throughout 2023. In 2024, Figma plans to offer Dev Mode access for $25 per seat/month on Organization plans and $35 per seat/month on Enterprise plans.

The Variables feature is currently in open beta with varying functions based on Professional and Organization plans. Advanced Prototyping will be available on the Professional plan and up.
