The company announced an increase in the recommended retail price of the PlayStation 5 by 25% in several regions, including Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, as well as some countries in the Middle East and Africa.
The United States remains the only major market not affected by the price hike. According to Sony representatives, this “difficult decision” was driven by macroeconomic factors — rising inflation and currency fluctuations. The company urges customers to check current prices with local retailers.
Starting Monday, the PS5 Digital Edition will cost £430 in the UK and €500 in Europe. The disc version will remain at its previous price in these regions. In Australia and New Zealand, both versions will increase in price: the disc model will cost AUD 830 or NZD 950, while the digital edition will be AUD 750 and NZD 860 respectively.
Interestingly, while console prices are going up, the cost of the standalone Disc Drive is being reduced in some regions. In Europe, it will cost €80, in the UK — £70, in Australia — AUD 125, and in New Zealand — NZD 140.
Prices for the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro model have not yet been adjusted. Bloomberg analysts suggest that if U.S. prices change, the increase could be between 30–40%, but no official moves have been made in that direction so far.
