OpenAI and Google have tightened content-generation limits in their flagship models — Sora and Nano Banana Pro.
Both companies are facing a sharp spike in demand. Server capacity is struggling to keep up, particularly with the surge of requests from free-tier users.
Bill Peebles, head of Sora at OpenAI, announced that free users are now limited to six video generations per day. According to him, the infrastructure is under severe strain, noting that “our GPUs are melting.”
Previously OpenAI emphasized that such limits were temporary. Now the company no longer makes that clarification, leaving the possibility of future relaxations uncertain. Users can purchase additional generations if needed, which aligns with OpenAI’s continued push toward monetization.
Limits for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers remain unchanged, although the company still does not disclose exact numbers. Google has also tightened free quotas for its newly released image generator, Nano Banana Pro, launched just a week ago. Free-tier users now receive two generations per day, down from three.
Google warned that limits may change frequently without prior notice, especially after the release of popular models that immediately create peak loads on the company’s data centers. Users have also noticed restrictions in access to Gemini 3 Pro. It appears free accounts now receive it far less often than before.
