At its annual DevDay 2025 conference, OpenAI unveiled a major update to ChatGPT: users can now interact directly with third-party apps like Spotify, Canva, Booking.com, Expedia, Figma, Coursera, and Zillow without ever leaving the chat window.

OpenAI also announced an Apps SDK — a toolkit for developers to build custom applications that run inside ChatGPT. According to CEO Sam Altman, this is a step toward making ChatGPT a full-fledged ecosystem, one that combines the intelligence of the model with the capabilities of third-party services.

Unlike last year’s GPT Store, this system is built directly into the chat. ChatGPT automatically invokes the right app based on the request:

  • Ask “Figma, turn this sketch into a diagram” and you’ll get a working layout.
  • Say “Coursera, teach me about machine learning” and it will open a relevant course.

For common scenarios, ChatGPT proactively suggests the right integration: Spotify for playlists, Expedia or Booking for travel, and more.

The integrations run on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows external data sources and actions to plug straight into the model. Some apps can even render interactive interfaces or video directly in the chat, pinned at the top and adapting dynamically to the conversation.

Users with existing subscriptions can log in through ChatGPT to unlock premium features. OpenAI is also preparing built-in monetization: with Instant Checkout, users will be able to pay for content or services inside the chat itself.

The list of supported apps will continue to expand, with upcoming additions including DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, Tripadvisor, and AllTrails.
