Microsoft has rolled out update KB5068781, the first security patch for Windows 10 since the official end of standard support in October.

The update is part of the company’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. Windows 10’s last cumulative update was released on October 14, 2025, after which the OS officially stopped receiving free fixes and security patches.

Users who wish to continue receiving updates must now subscribe to the ESU program, which will run for up to three years. For individual users, the subscription costs $30, or it can be redeemed with 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points.

EU residents have slightly more flexibility: they can receive updates for free for one year when signed in with a Microsoft account, or pay $30 if using a local account.

Enterprise customers can purchase an extended three-year ESU plan, priced at around $427 per device.
