US Company Space Perspective says it has devised a massive balloon, which is expected to start taking passengers for the 6-hour balloon ride in 2024.
A massive balloon titled Spaceship Neptune reportedly has the size of a football stadium. For $125,000 it will take guests on a six-hour voyage to the edge of the atmosphere and back.
Passengers will depart from Space Coast Air and Spaceport, located across NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, while the exact landing pad is unknown and will be different each time. The capsule with passengers will be returning to Earth by water landing and then picked up by a ship in the sea.
The capsule itself will be a pressurised luxury lounge built using sustainable materials. Keying in the sustainability factor, Spaceship Neptune will be the only carbon-neutral, zero-emission way to visit space when it launches in 2024.
Our mission is to inspire Space Explorers to connect more closely with our planet and each other, and the environment in which they travel with us is central to this. Our Space Lounge is a world away from the white, utilitarian environments you find in other spacecraft,
Space Perspective’s founder and chief experience officer Jane Poynter said.
