TSMC has reportedly begun warning major clients, including Apple, that it will soon increase prices on all chips produced using manufacturing nodes below 5nm.
According to Korean insider yeux1122, the cost of these chips is expected to rise by 8–10%, with the price adjustment taking effect next year.
MacRumors notes that the “A20” chip designed for next year’s iPhone lineup could be significantly more expensive to produce. The A20 is expected to be the first widely available 2nm chip, debuting in the iPhone 18 series and later forming the basis of the upcoming M6 chips for Macs.
For the past three generations, Apple’s A-series chips have relied on TSMC’s 3nm process. Transitioning to 2nm is projected to deliver further gains in performance and energy efficiency, but also comes with higher manufacturing costs, which may ultimately be reflected in the retail price of new devices.
