At its September 9, 2025 event, Apple introduced the iPhone Air — the thinnest iPhone in the company’s history.
The device stands out for its slim profile and lightweight build. But what’s inside, how it handles battery life, and what makes the “Air” unique? Here’s a closer look.
The iPhone Air measures just 5.6mm thick, making it the thinnest and lightest iPhone to date.
Its frame is made of titanium, with glass panels and a new Ceramic Shield 2 coating. The upgraded glass offers four times better scratch resistance and an anti-glare layer.
The rear camera is housed in a pill-shaped bar that spans the full width of the device, a design element shared across the iPhone 17 lineup.
On the front, Dynamic Island remains but in a slightly smaller format, paired with ultra-thin bezels that make the phone look even more “airy.”
The iPhone Air will be available in space black, cloud white, light gold, and sky blue.
Powered by the A19 Pro chip, the Air version features a slightly reduced GPU with five cores instead of six.
It comes with 12GB of RAM, now standard across the iPhone 17 lineup.
The phone includes a 3,000mAh battery. Despite its modest capacity, Apple highlights efficiency gains from the display and processor optimizations. For heavier users, a new slim MagSafe external battery will be available for $99.
The ultra-thin body also means a full shift to eSIM — no physical SIM slot.
The main rear camera features a 48MP sensor, while the front camera has been upgraded to 18MP. Optical zoom is limited to 2x, but Apple leans on computational photography to deliver more flexibility.
Video recording supports 4K with advanced stabilization, and users can now record simultaneously with both cameras.
Pre-orders open September 9, with general availability starting September 19. The iPhone Air starts at $999.
