Humane, a startup founded by former Apple executives, has showcased its "Ai Pin" wearable at a Paris fashion show, offering a glimpse of its innovative form factor.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was the first to publicly wear the device, which combines projectors, cameras, and AI technology to function as a wearable AI assistant. The Ai Pin is described as a screenless, standalone device and software platform designed for AI.
Powered by an advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, it features a mini-projector in place of a smartphone screen, a camera, and a speaker. It offers AI-powered optical recognition while prioritizing privacy with no "always on" listening.
The full unveiling of the Ai Pin is scheduled for November 9.
Humane co-founder Imran Chaudhri demonstrated the capabilities of the Ai Pin during a Ted Talk in May this year, showing features such as projecting call information onto the hand and real-time translation using artificial intelligence.
However, specific details about internet connectivity remain unclear as the device does not pair with a smartphone. While the device aims to eliminate the need for users to carry a smartphone, its actual advantages over a traditional phone are still a matter of debate.
Humane's presentation at Paris Fashion Week highlights the stylish design of the device, which comes in black and white, although its unconventional form factor may raise questions about privacy and social acceptability. More details on the Ai Pin will be unveiled in November.
