Google has upgraded featured snippets, which are a quick response to users' query at the top of the page, using the latest AI model. It can look for consensus when deciding which snippet to feature.
Google's search AI can check snippet headlines against other high-quality sources on the web and determine if there is a consensus for that headline, even if the sources use different words or concepts to describe the same fact or idea.
Google states:
The consensus-based technique has meaningfully improved the quality and helpfulness of featured snippet callouts.
Google has also tweaked its search artificial intelligence so that a specific update reduces the display of snippets for some queries, such as those with false assumptions, by 40 per cent.
Google is also changing the way "About this result" tool works. It will contain additional information to help understand whether a source is trustworthy.
In addition, Google's AI will report questionable search query quality. It will say, "It looks like there aren't many great results for this search." Users will be prompted to check the source themselves or try other search terms.
