Google has officially revised the timeline for replacing its classic voice assistant, Google Assistant, with the new AI service Gemini, The Verge reports.

The company had originally planned to complete the migration for Android users by the end of 2025, but the deadline has now been pushed to spring 2026.

According to Google, the schedule was adjusted to ensure a smoother transition for users. Under the updated plan, the final switch from Google Assistant to Gemini on mobile devices is now expected in March 2026.

What this means for users:

Smartphone and tablet owners will be able to continue using Google Assistant for several more months, without being forced to upgrade to Gemini.

Google plans to use the additional time to further refine Gemini, ensuring it can handle all the same commands as its predecessor with comparable speed and reliability.

Once the transition is complete, the classic Google Assistant will no longer be available on devices that meet Gemini’s minimum requirements (Android 10 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM), and the standalone app will be removed from app stores.

Beyond technical improvements, the delay may also be linked to advertising strategy. According to sources, ad integration within the Gemini chatbot is also scheduled for 2026.
