Google has announced its largest acquisition to date, purchasing cloud security startup Wiz for $32 billion in an all-cash deal. The acquisition has already been confirmed.

Wiz will continue to operate as an independent platform, maintaining compatibility with multiple cloud services beyond Google Cloud Platform. The company is expected to expand its workforce and potentially pursue further acquisitions, following its strategy over the past year.

The deal is set to strengthen Google's position in cloud security, where it competes with Microsoft and Amazon AWS. Industry analysts compare it to Microsoft’s LinkedIn acquisition, speculating that Wiz, despite its independence, will eventually integrate more deeply into the Google Cloud ecosystem.

Regulatory approval is still required, with the acquisition expected to close in 2026. Until now, Google’s largest purchase was Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in 2011.

Discussions surrounding the acquisition have been ongoing for nearly a year, with pauses and resumptions. The decisive move came this week when the deal's value increased to $32 billion. Negotiations were led by Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, and Wiz will become part of his division—marking a major step for Google in cloud security.
