The world of emoji is about to expand once again as Emoji 15.1 gets the green light from the Unicode Consortium.

This means that a fresh set of expressive icons and objects will soon find their way to your devices, adding more variety to your digital conversations. While Emoji 15.1 doesn't introduce as many new icons as some previous updates, it brings some interesting additions.

Among the newcomers are emojis for head shaking horizontally and vertically, a majestic phoenix, a zesty lime, a brown mushroom, and a broken chain. Additionally, users can expect new emojis representing different family sizes and variations of familiar emojis facing different directions.

However, don't expect to start using these emojis immediately. It typically takes time for tech giants like Apple and Microsoft to integrate the new emojis into their software, so some patience will be required before you can spice up your messages with a lime emoji or choose a headshake through a tiny digital character.

If you believe there's an emoji missing from the current lineup, you can even submit your own proposal. The Unicode Consortium provides a guide on how to do this, with submissions reopening in April 2024. So, if you have a unique emoji idea in mind, you might see it featured in a future update.
