Emirates President says one-pilot planes possible with AI advancements

Emirates President Tim Clark has suggested that planes with just one pilot are a possibility as the aviation industry continues to embrace artificial intelligence.

Speaking to CNBC, Clark noted that passengers may not necessarily be comfortable with the idea of a single pilot, but that AI could have a positive impact on the industry as a whole. Clark added:

“Could the aircraft be flown on a fully automated basis? Yes it could, technology is right up there now, [but] there’ll always be somebody on the flight deck in my view”

Despite a few start-ups concentrating on creating pilotless aircraft for the future, the market for autonomous aircraft is still in its infancy.
