Elon Musk has officially launched Grokipedia, an artificial intelligence–driven alternative to Wikipedia. The project, built on xAI’s Grok system, was first reported by Business Insider.
At launch, the Grokipedia library already contains more than 885,000 articles. The platform operates as a hybrid between a search engine and an encyclopedia, with responses generated by language models.

Its interface is minimalist — a simple search bar on the homepage. After entering a query, users are offered refined suggestions and a list of related materials. Each article is written by AI, and the platform is currently available in an early “version 0.1” test phase to users worldwide.
According to The Washington Post, several users experienced brief technical issues immediately after launch, but the service was quickly restored.

Musk first mentioned Grokipedia in September 2025, calling it an open-minded alternative to Wikipedia, which he has repeatedly criticized for bias and editorial censorship.
The conflict between Musk and the Wikipedia community escalated after analytics firm NewsGuard accused his social network X (formerly Twitter) of spreading misinformation about the Israel–Hamas conflict. Musk responded that Wikipedia often distorts facts and announced plans to build an independent knowledge platform without “political and ideological bias.”
It remains unclear whether Grokipedia entries will eventually involve human editors or remain entirely AI-generated. Musk has stated that the system is expected to evolve to automatically update and fact-check information as new data becomes available.
