Researchers have reported the largest-ever data leak tied to China’s internet censorship system, widely known as the “Great Firewall.”

Over 500GB of documents, source code, and logs have surfaced publicly, offering unprecedented insight into how the system operates.

According to the GFW Report team, the leaked archive includes material from Geedge Networks, a company linked to firewall architect Fang Binxing, as well as the MESA Lab of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

  • Among the findings are build systems for DPI platforms and modules designed to block VPNs, analyze SSL connections, and log internet sessions.
  • The documents describe the architecture of the Tiangou platform, referred to as a “Great Firewall in a box.”
  • Deployed in Myanmar data centers, Tiangou is capable of monitoring tens of millions of connections simultaneously.
  • Researchers also claim the technology was exported to Pakistan, Ethiopia, and Kazakhstan for surveillance and traffic interception.

Experts have already begun analyzing the archive, which includes developer notes and build logs that could help uncover system vulnerabilities.

Hacktivist groups, including Enlace Hacktivista, have started distributing duplicate copies of the archive, though specialists warn it should only be handled in isolated environments.
