OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a new section where users can discuss health-related topics with the AI.

According to the company, more than 230 million people ask ChatGPT health questions every week. The new section will take user data into account and allows integrations with Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. This enables ChatGPT to help users prepare for doctor appointments, interpret health metrics and test results, and offer nutrition guidance.

OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT Health is not intended to replace medical care.

“Health is designed to support, not replace, medical care. It is not intended for diagnosis or treatment. Instead, it helps you navigate everyday questions and understand patterns over time—not just moments of illness—so you can feel more informed and prepared for important medical conversations,” the company said.

Health data is stored in a separate environment with enhanced privacy protections. ChatGPT may reference information from other chats to provide health-related guidance, but it will never use data from the Health section when responding in other conversations.

The feature was developed in collaboration with medical professionals. Over the past two years, OpenAI collected more than 600,000 feedback submissions from over 260 physicians to improve the system’s usefulness for health-related guidance.

ChatGPT Health is currently available to a limited number of users, with a waitlist open for broader access.
