OpenAI has rolled out group chats globally in ChatGPT. The feature had been in testing with a limited set of users and is now available to anyone logged into a ChatGPT account.
It supports Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, and is designed not only for workplace collaboration but for everyday use as well. Group chats allow multiple people to participate in the same conversation alongside the model, with all participants seeing the full message history and being able to share files.
The model responds with awareness of the collective context rather than treating each message in isolation. The result is less a traditional bot chat and more a shared assistant that helps an entire group work through a task together.

OpenAI says the feature can be used for project collaboration, brainstorming, learning, event planning, document analysis or writing code as a team. It may be especially useful for distributed groups or online sessions without relying on additional tools.
There is no stated limit on the number of participants yet, though more granular access controls and role settings are expected in the future, particularly for business accounts.
The interface is built directly into ChatGPT. When creating a new conversation, users can add participants and send invitations. No separate apps or corporate licenses are required.
