The next version of Apple's Vision Pro headset is at least two years away from launch, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Gurman pushed back against speculation that Apple has fully abandoned the product line. The company is continuing to develop new technologies and materials aimed at producing a lighter, more affordable closed headset.

However, no such device is currently in active development. The long-anticipated Vision Air model was officially canceled last year, and most of Apple's mixed reality specialists have been reassigned to other projects. The team's main priority has now shifted to lightweight smart glasses.

Former members of the Vision team are also helping to improve the Siri chatbot and develop new AI-powered wearables. These include AirPods with built-in cameras and a dedicated AI pendant.

The troubled launch of the original $3,499 headset was recently chronicled in detail by New York Times reporter Noam Scheiber. He argues that the product's struggles can be traced back to years of cuts to Apple's retail workforce.

The Vision Pro line was last updated in October 2025, when Apple released a refreshed model powered by the M5 chip.
