Rescue teams reported that a large number of false calls were caused by skiers accidentally triggering the "car accident detection" function.

During the Christmas holidays many Americans prefer spending time skiing. And this time emergency dispatchers have received a high number of false positives for "car accident detection" due to skiing.

Emergency dispatchers work on all incoming calls in the order in which they come. There is a risk that real emergency call won`t be processed efficiently due to long line of false calls.

Earlier in the autumn Apple launched Crash Detection feature designed to detect severe car crashes. On supported iPhone and Apple Watch models, Crash Detection is turned on by default.

The case with false triggered "car accident detection" may lead to a lawsuit against Apple in order to force Apple to amend the software and mute the feature for skiers.
