The FBI’s Atlanta division has seized and taken down several well-known websites that distributed pirated video games.
For over four years, these sites had been leaking game copies days or even weeks ahead of official release dates. Between February 28 and May 28, 2025 alone, users downloaded around 3.2 million files, causing an estimated $170 million in losses for developers and publishers.

According to the Bureau, the free distribution of games harms not only companies but also the developers who spend years creating games and building anticipation ahead of major launches.
The crackdown on online piracy in the U.S. will continue, and those behind these sites may face legal action once the investigation is complete.
