Apple is working on a new iPad Pro with an improved cooling system, according to Mark Gurman’s latest Bloomberg newsletter.

iPad Pro

The new iPad Pro could arrive as early as 2027, two years after the current model. The addition of a vapor chamber is expected to enhance the device’s thermal management and boost performance during demanding tasks.

This upgrade will be particularly valuable for professional users working with intensive apps such as video editing or 3D modeling. By maintaining a stable processor temperature, the iPad Pro will be able to sustain higher performance levels for longer periods.

Cooling technology from the iPhone

The vapor chamber cooling system is the same technology Apple introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. It provides more efficient heat dissipation from the processor under heavy loads, helping prevent overheating and performance throttling.

Vapor chambers work by circulating a liquid inside a sealed system. Heat from the processor causes the liquid to evaporate and move to cooler areas of the device, where it condenses and returns to its original state, creating a continuous cooling cycle.

Expanding the product line

Integrating this technology into the iPad Pro reflects Apple’s ambition to make its tablets even more capable professional tools. The company continues to blur the line between tablets and laptops, especially with the inclusion of M-series chips.

According to Bloomberg, this move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the entire iPad lineup. Apple aims to position the iPad Pro as a true computer replacement for certain categories of users.

Competition in the tablet market

The introduction of vapor chamber cooling could help Apple maintain its leadership in the premium tablet segment. Competitors are also investing in more advanced cooling systems, and Apple cannot afford to lag behind.

Professional users increasingly view the iPad Pro as a primary work device, and enhanced stability and performance under heavy workloads will only make it more appealing.

Advertising in Apple Maps

Alongside iPad development, Apple is moving forward with plans to introduce advertising in Apple Maps, adding a new revenue stream to its services business.

Monetizing Maps through ads is a logical step, mirroring the success of Google’s long-standing advertising model in Google Maps.

Challenges with the foldable iPad

Apple is also developing an 18-inch foldable iPad, but the project has faced major setbacks. According to Gurman, significant technological challenges have slowed progress.

The foldable iPad was intended to be a breakthrough product that combined the portability of a tablet with a larger display area. However, engineering a reliable foldable screen of that size has proven far more complex than expected.
