Apple has officially introduced the new Mac Studio, powered by M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips.
The M3 Ultra variant starts with 28 CPU cores and 60 GPU cores, scaling up to 32 CPU and 80 GPU cores in its highest configuration, along with 32 Neural Engine cores for AI processing. Apple claims it delivers 2x the performance of M2 Ultra and 2.6x that of M1 Ultra. It supports memory bandwidth up to 819GB/s and RAM options from 96GB to 512GB, while SSD storage ranges from 1TB to 16TB.
The M4 Max model offers up to 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores, with 16 Neural Engine cores for AI acceleration. According to Apple, it’s 3.5x faster than the M1 Max Mac Studio and up to 6.1x faster than the most powerful 27-inch Intel iMac. It comes with 36GB of unified memory in the base model, expandable up to 128GB, and supports SSD configurations from 512GB to 8TB. The device can drive up to eight Pro Display XDRs in full 6K resolution.
For connectivity, both models feature:
The M4 Max variant has two USB-C ports (10Gbps), while the M3 Ultra model upgrades to four Thunderbolt 5 ports (120Gbps).
Pre-orders are now open, with sales beginning on March 12.
