Apple and Google have announced a joint effort to build a system that makes transferring data between iOS and Android significantly easier, 9to5Mac reports.

The new migration mechanism will be integrated directly into the initial device setup process. This approach will allow users to move a broader range of data than current standalone apps support.

Google has already begun rolling out the feature in the Android Canary build for Pixel devices. Apple will add it to an upcoming beta version of iOS 26.

At the moment, switching between platforms relies on separate apps — “Move to iOS” on Google Play and “Switch to Android” in the App Store. A built-in system is expected to make the process more seamless and comprehensive.

The companies have not given a firm timeline for when the updated migration tool will reach stable OS releases. On Android, the rollout will take place in stages across different device models.
