Apple has released a security update for older iPhones and iPads to protect users from a hacking toolkit known as DarkSword.
DarkSword is capable of compromising Apple devices running iOS 18.4 through 18.7 simply by visiting a website containing malicious code. In some cases, attackers can embed the exploit into legitimate websites that have been compromised. Once exploited, hackers can access sensitive data including messages, browser history, location information and even cryptocurrency wallets, then upload the data to remote servers.
Apple previously addressed the vulnerability in iOS 26, meaning users running the latest software were already protected. The company later released fixes for devices that cannot update to iOS 26.
With the latest update, Apple has now extended protection to users still running iOS 18, including those whose devices support iOS 26 but who have not yet upgraded.
Apple recommends installing the update as soon as possible, as the vulnerability could be exploited through everyday browsing without requiring users to download malicious apps.
