Apple has agreed to pay $250 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed by U.S. buyers of iPhone 16 and iPhone 15, who expected the AI features for Siri that had been announced but never delivered. The settlement is pending court approval.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of iPhone owners who purchased devices expecting new Siri capabilities unveiled in 2024, which were not implemented, Financial Times reports. Plaintiffs argue that Apple promoted AI features that were not available at the time, are still unavailable, and are unlikely to appear in the near future. As a result, the company is accused of misleading customers by effectively marketing what could be described as vaporware.

By early this year, Apple shifted toward partnerships to advance AI features on iPhone, including collaboration with Google and the integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which began in 2024. The company has yet to introduce its own AI models to significantly upgrade Siri. During the iPhone 16 launch, Apple heavily promoted new AI capabilities, but later acknowledged delays in their rollout and eventually pulled related advertising.

If approved by the court, the settlement will allow U.S. buyers of iPhone 16 devices and certain iPhone 15 models to claim compensation from the $250 million fund.
