Google may soon introduce a feature similar to Apple’s Live Activities on iPhone, allowing Android users to track real-time updates directly from the status bar.

According to journalist Mishaal Rahman, Google is developing a new API called Rich Ongoing Notifications spotted in the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3. This feature would enable apps to display quick-access notifications, such as transit updates or delivery ETAs, in a compact status bar format.

The new notifications could work like Android’s existing time-tracker for phone calls, showing brief info in a bubble that can be tapped for more details.

Rahman notes that apps would have control over text and background color, allowing customization to enhance the user experience. While the feature isn’t complete, it’s likely to arrive with Android 16.
