A Boeing-built communications satellite, Intelsat 33e, has broken apart in orbit, with the U.S. Space Force tracking 20 pieces of debris following the satellite's "total loss" due to an anomaly.

Launched in 2016 to provide communications across Europe, Asia, and Africa, Intelsat 33e faced multiple propulsion issues that had already shortened its lifespan. Intelsat is working with Boeing and government agencies to investigate the cause of the incident.

The satellite's breakup adds to Boeing's recent struggles, including issues with its Starliner mission and legal troubles related to the 737 Max.
