Google has partnered with nuclear startup Kairos Power to purchase energy from seven small nuclear reactors, aiming to generate 500 megawatts by 2035.
The first reactor is set to be operational by 2030. This marks the first corporate deal to source power from small modular reactors (SMRs), which are cheaper to build. Google's Michael Terrell said the partnership will help accelerate reactor deployment to reduce costs.
The move follows similar deals between tech companies and the nuclear industry to meet the growing energy demands of AI data centers.
