Several Northern California police departments are expressing regret over their decision to replace their patrol cars with Tesla Model Y vehicles, despite the electric vehicles' environmental benefits.
According to interviews conducted by SFGate, police chiefs cited various issues, including limited interior space, "autopilot interference" during roadside stops, and challenges with charging infrastructure, especially when transporting suspects over long distances.
Additionally, officers are concerned about the lack of an engine block for protection during firefights, a standard police tactic. These issues are leading some departments to question the viability of using Teslas cars.
