OpenAI is beta testing Canvas, a new feature for ChatGPT that offers a collaborative workspace for writing and coding projects.

Currently available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with Enterprise and Edu access coming next week, Canvas opens a separate window next to the main chat space, allowing users to highlight specific portions of their work for focused editing or code review.

Canvas can be manually opened by typing "use canvas" or automatically triggered when the system detects it may be useful. The tool includes shortcuts for suggested edits, code fixes, bug repairs, and porting code to different languages, enhancing productivity in writing and coding tasks.

This update brings OpenAI in line with other AI tools offering dedicated workspaces, such as Anthropic's Artifacts and Cursor.
