OpenAI is preparing to raise the price of its ChatGPT subscriptions, with the cost expected to rise from $20 to $22 per month by the end of 2023, according to internal documents cited by The New York Times.

By 2029, the subscription fee could reach $44 per month as the company seeks to address financial pressures from investors amid projected losses of approximately $5 billion this year.

Despite generating $300 million in monthly revenue as of August, OpenAI faces high operational costs, including staffing and AI infrastructure, with ChatGPT reportedly costing the company $700,000 daily. While there are currently around 10 million paying users, surveys indicate that many view the existing price as too steep.
