WhatsApp is developing a feature similar to Apple's AirDrop, allowing users to share files without an internet connection. Initially tested on Android, this feature will also be available for iPhone users.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS on TestFlight includes "Nearby Share." This feature enables users to wirelessly share photos, videos, and documents with nearby people using an end-to-end encrypted connection.

However, due to iOS restrictions, iPhone users will need to scan a QR Code to start sharing files, unlike Android, which detects nearby devices automatically.

A notable aspect of Nearby Share is its expected compatibility between iOS and Android, facilitating easier file transfers between different phone types.

While the feature is present in the latest beta version of WhatsApp, it is currently available only for internal testing. There is no information yet on when Nearby Share will be released to the public.
