OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has seen its annualized revenue soar to $3.4 billion, according to a new report by The Information.
This marks a significant increase from $1.6 billion at the end of last year and $1 billion a year ago. The revenue boost comes primarily from subscriptions to ChatGPT, which offers higher messaging limits for users paying at least $20 a month, and from developers using OpenAI's language models in their own applications.
A significant portion of that revenue, about $200 million a year, comes from a partnership with Microsoft. OpenAI receives a share of the sales from businesses using its large language models on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform.
Despite these impressive figures, an OpenAI spokesperson described the financials reported by The Information as "inaccurate" without specifying which details were disputed. OpenAI has not yet responded to requests for further clarification.
