X is shaking up its subscription offerings with the introduction of two new tiers, expanding on its existing subscription service, previously known as Twitter Blue.
The company has unveiled a $16 per month "Premium+" tier, aimed at providing users with an ad-free experience across their timelines. Additionally, the Premium+ tier offers a blue checkmark and enhanced algorithmic boosts for replies.
X is also rolling out a more budget-friendly option, the $3 per month "basic" tier. However, this tier comes with a more limited set of features, lacking the blue checkmark and revenue-sharing benefits. Instead, it grants users the ability to edit tweets, create longer posts, download videos, and enjoy a "small reply boost," along with encrypted direct messages.
Notably, both the Premium+ and basic tiers are currently accessible only via the web, a move likely designed to bypass additional fees associated with Apple and Google's app stores.
These new subscription offerings are a strategic response to X's declining advertising business, which has prompted the company to increasingly rely on subscription revenue. X has even begun testing a program in select countries, requiring new users to pay $1 per year to post and reply to tweets.
