According to data from internet analytics firm Similarweb, global mobile and desktop traffic to the ChatGPT website dropped by 9.7 percent in June, marking the first-ever decline in user numbers for the chatbot.
The decline was also reflected in the downloads of ChatGPT's iOS client, as reported by app tracker Sensor Tower. While the exact reasons for the decline are not confirmed, it seems to align with a wider industry trend, as other chatbot platforms such as Microsoft Bing, Google Bard, and Character.AI have also seen decreasing traffic in recent months.
The decline in popularity of ChatGPT can be related to a variety of factors. The end of the school year may be one factor, as fewer college students use chatbots for academic purposes during the summer break.
In addition, some companies, such as Samsung, have implemented policies prohibiting employees from using chatbots with artificial intelligence because of concerns about possible data leaks.
