President Biden recently met with influential leaders in the field of artificial intelligence at a meeting in San Francisco, highlighting the administration's commitment to understanding and navigating the impact of artificial intelligence on society.

The President met with Tristan Harris, executive director of the Center for Human Technology; Fei-Fei Li, Co-Director of Stanford’s Human-Centered AI Institute; and Jennifer Doudna, Professor of Chemistry at UC Berkeley, among others.

Amid calls from lawmakers for a comprehensive study of the potential impact of AI on American society, President Biden took the opportunity to speak directly with experts and delve into the topic. The discussion revolved around the rapid development of AI technology, with a particular focus on generative AI systems and their implications for various industries.

While these systems have the potential to revolutionize the economy and change the nature of work, concerns were also raised about the possible displacement of entire professions, as exemplified by the challenges faced by digital art and journalism.

Recognizing the significance of staying ahead in AI developments, the Biden administration has prioritized this issue. In May, the White House announced a $140 million investment to establish seven National AI Research Institutes. Additionally, the administration has been actively exploring AI's applications in business and has established regular meetings within top White House staff to discuss related matters.
