Social media platform X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk, has agreed to pay around $10 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2021.
The lawsuit stemmed from Trump’s account suspension following the January 6 Capitol riot. According to The Wall Street Journal, the settlement was reached through negotiations.
At the time of the ban, Twitter was under previous management and not yet owned by Musk. However, after acquiring the platform, Musk reversed content moderation policies, reinstating Trump and several other users.
Previously, Meta (designated as extremist and banned in Russia) settled a similar case, agreeing to pay $25 million for suspending Trump’s Facebook account. Google is also in talks regarding YouTube’s restrictions on the former president.
