U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly called on Apple CEO Tim Cook to stop expanding the company’s manufacturing presence in India.
According to MacRumors, Trump made the request during his visit to Qatar. He expressed frustration over Apple’s increasing overseas production, particularly in India, where he claimed the company faces "literally no tarifs."
“I said 'Tim, we are treating you really good, we put up with all the plants you built in China for years. We are not interested in you building in India. India can take care of themselves,” Trump reportedly said, adding that Apple should focus on increasing production within the United States.
The comments come as Apple has already shifted a significant portion of iPhone production to India. In the last fiscal year alone, manufacturing volumes in the country reached $22 billion — almost 60% more than the previous year. This move challenges Apple’s plan to import most India-assembled iPhones to the U.S. by the end of 2026.
Neither Apple nor Tim Cook has officially responded to the president’s remarks.
