U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Microsoft is in talks to acquire the American operations of TikTok from Chinese owner ByteDance.
According to Trump, multiple companies have expressed interest in the platform, and China will not interfere in the transaction. He added that several options for TikTok’s future are being considered, with a final decision expected within the next 30 days. Trump also stated that TikTok could continue operating in the U.S. if 50% of its shares are transferred under American government control.
Microsoft previously discussed acquiring TikTok in 2020, when Trump required ByteDance to sell its U.S. operations, citing national security concerns. Although initially advocating for a full ban, Trump later softened his stance, partly due to the platform’s popularity and content supporting him.
Other potential buyers include Oracle and even Elon Musk. While the fate of TikTok remains uncertain, a deal could dramatically reshape the platform's management in the U.S.
