On Tuesday, President Donald Trump revealed the Stargate Project, a $500 billion initiative led by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank to develop cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in the United States.

The project, headquartered in Texas, is backed by an initial $100 billion investment, set to increase to $500 billion over four years. Key partners include Arm, Microsoft, and NVIDIA.

The Stargate initiative is designed to develop both physical and virtual AI infrastructure. This includes advanced data centers across the U.S. to support OpenAI’s growing computational needs. As Trump put it, the project is critical for maintaining the country’s technological edge.

What we want to do is keep it in this country, Trump said during the announcement. China is a competitor, others are competitors. This investment ensures we remain ahead in the AI race.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called Stargate the “most important project of this era,” highlighting its potential to create over 100,000 American jobs. SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son described it as the “beginning of a golden age.”

While the project is a private-sector effort, Trump pledged federal support, including emergency declarations, to expedite energy production and infrastructure development.
