TP-Link has announced that it has become the first company to successfully test a prototype of the next-generation Wi-Fi 8 standard (802.11bn).

The new standard will operate across the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, with a maximum data rate of up to 23 Gbps. According to the company, the test confirmed both the functionality and bandwidth performance of Wi-Fi 8.

TP-Link said the new technology will focus on improved performance and connection reliability. The first consumer devices supporting Wi-Fi 8 could arrive even before the standard is officially finalized.

The prototype was developed as part of a joint industry partnership, and Wi-Fi 8 is expected to be ratified by the end of 2028. TP-Link did not disclose further technical details at this stage.
