Chinese social media platform TikTok has announced the resumption of its services for U.S. users.
This comes after statements from President-elect Donald Trump, who pledged to issue an executive order halting the platform's ban immediately after his inauguration.
In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties for providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrives, the company said in a statement on X.
TikTok called Trump’s actions a significant step against “arbitrary censorship” and reaffirmed its commitment to working with the new administration to find a long-term solution that ensures the platform’s operations in the U.S. continue.
